- Guests process (policy & e-waiver) has been revised & reinstated. Â Guests require a Sponsor (club member) who will walk the guest through the process and who will reach out to the event Leader to see if guests are welcome.
- Carpooling reimbursement recommendations have been put together by the board & added to the Guidelines & Expectations to compensate drivers.
- Gerry MacDougall has stepped down from the Secretary role on the board and will continue to support the club as a Leader and event participant.
Hike Leader Program & Recognition
- Thank you to all our leaders and co-leaders that helped make our May & June events possible (Bunny, Carla, Carole, Chris, Deanna, Erika, Doug M, Doug S, Gerry, Ian, John, Kevin, Lisa, Liz, Lois, Katherine, Margo, Maureen, Pam, Sam, Sharon, Sheila, Shelley & Tim)
- In May we had some strenuous/challenging hikes (Cougar Canyon, Painted Bluffs, Red Ridge-Dewdrop, Opax Ramble & Peterson Creek East), some out of town hikes (Neskonlith, Enderby Cliffs, Cougar Canyon, Blind Bay & Kalamalka Lake) and we also had an Art Hike (Harper Mountain Art Hike).
- In June we hiked some of our favourites (Barnes Lake, Savona Caves, Sunrise Mountain, Mt Baldy, Embelton Mt) and had some more evening, SUP & Kayaking events & two out of town trips (Gladstone Provincial Park & Joffre Lakes)
- Regular events on Tuesday (Erika & Kevin) and Wednesday (Doug) are very popular and much appreciated.
- We are seeing more events posted on Mondays, Thursdays and the weekends which is fantastic!
- Matt Treger & Gerry MacDougall joined the Leader group and will be able to post or co-lead events for the club.
- We are always looking for new leaders and co-leaders and all the creative and adventurous ideas they bring.
Events Program
- The 150th event was posted for the club on June 18th what a fun and busy year we are having!
- In the last 6 months we averaged 25 events per month. May had 27 events posted and June had 20 events posted. That’s absolutely amazing!
- You can see the events that were posted by going to Past Events and 2023 Events Grouped by Month
- Lots of new members are out enjoying our events and new members can always join the Tuesday Kenna Cartwright hike as Erika & Kevin will add them to their event (if they reach out to them) even if their event is full.
- Most events continue to fill up & some hike leaders continue to add a few extra spots. Some leaders prefer small groups and do not adjust their group size.
- July & August will be hot and many of our volunteer Leaders are on backpack trips, family vacations so the number of club events will probably decrease.
- Tips for booking any event include checking the website frequently and watching for cancellations if you don’t get a spot. You can also comment on the event & new members are encouraged to check out our Successful Bookings and Guidelines & Expectations information.  Leaders will sometimes duplicate the event on a different day if enough interest is shown. Become a leader and add your own event 😊 Please remember to bring your 10 essentials along on our events.
Website Updates/Issues
- A huge thank you to Doug S, Doug M, Frith, Monika & Erika, & Denise for keeping our Website & Facebook pages up and running and for dealing with the issues that arise.
- Added carpooling reimbursement recommendations from the June 6, 2023 board meeting to Guidelines & Expectations. Also reviewed/revised the page and added 3 headings to separate the information a bit (Event Preparation & Safety, Carpooling and Event Registration & Participation).
- Summarized all our Safety & Insurance information for our members under the Club Info menu heading and are also displaying this information on the Hike Leader Program & Resources page.
- Reviewed & revised the club’s FAQ web page information.
- Guest process (policy & e-waiver) has been revised & reinstated. Â Guests require a Sponsor (club member) who will walk the guest through the process and who will reach out to the event Leader to see if guests are welcome.
- Combined the News & Event Reports widget sections on the landing page.
- Very little feedback regarding the website was received so we will keep things the way they are for the next year.
- Recent website changes, issues & feedback are documented in the Website Changes Issues & Feedback – a few updates that’s currently displayed on the KHC landing page.
- If you notice anything odd or not working on the KHC website please reach out to websitehelp@kamloopshikingclub.net or Doug Morris.
Happy hiking and see you on the trail soon.
