Description

The tentative location will be along the Rivers Trail, then a detour out to Dale’s Antique Beach, then a walk along the shoreline banks, islands and sand bars, and a return route by the wide beaches

  • meet at the Rivers Trail West trailhead (end of Aviator Way – click the Location link for the Rivers Trail for more information)
  • dress for the weather
  • watch the listing for updates
  • lunch along the route
  • although originally I had planned a hike in the hills, we recently found the conditions to be muddy so we will walk on gravel and sand along the river instead.
  • the route is flat, but we will be hiking/walking along the shoreline (off trail) too

We have been hiking/snowshoeing on Wednesday mornings for a few years now and we will continue to do so for the late fall – winter – early spring of 2018 – 2019.

  • most outings will be at 10:00 for a meet-up and carpool, but each week will be a different trail/route
  • carpooling is planned
  • a lunch stop, often at the halfway point is the usual practice
  • final details will be confirmed about a week out when we have a weather forecast which affects driving conditions, parking access, and trail choice
  • once snows cover the region the outings will mostly be snowshoeing events, but if have some unseasonably mild weather, an on-the-snow trek may be a good choice
  • dress for the conditions and bring your 10 Essentials for winter conditions if the temperature drops
  • read the listing carefully to see if the outing is right for you
  • we will hike/snowshoe together for safety and for peace of mind

On this day, the event will likely be a local hike, but as week passes by, on the snow activities will be the norm.   Early snowshoe outings will be trail routes, but as our fitness improves, we will be off-trail (breaking trail), then later in the season we will do some good climbs.

Wednesday Wanderings:

  • get out into the outdoors mid-week
  • exercise and fitness objectives
  • varied routes to show members new areas
  • a group outing with a group ambience, but low-key and informal
  • increasing challenges from late fall to late winter as fitness and endurance improves

If:

  • if it dry we will do a local hike of 2 – 2.5 hours
  • if it is wet and muddy – we will pick a shorter hike where mud is less likely
  • if it is snowy, we will pick a good on-the snow hike (2 hours)
  • if there is lots of snow, we will be a the Bush Lake – Dogwood Marshes area to snowshoe
  • if it is too cold, we will cancel
