Description

Because of icy condtions on the roads and trails, this hike has been moved from Wednesday to Thursday, same time, same place.

A hike along the top of Dufferin Ridge and back by another trail, all on established trails

  • meet at the main Kenna Cartwright Parking lot on Hillside Drive at 10:00
  • dress for the weather
  • if conditions may be slippery, bring traction devices
  • hike for 2 – 2.5 hours on park trails
  • article on the route – Dufferin Ridge
  • watch the listing for updates

We have been hiking/snowshoeing on Wednesday mornings for a few years now and we will continue to do so for the late fall – winter – early spring of 2018 – 2019.

  • most outings will be at 10:00 for a meet-up and carpool, but each week will be a different trail/route
  • carpooling is planned
  • a lunch stop, often at the halfway point is the usual practice
  • final details will be confirmed about a week out when we have a weather forecast which affects driving conditions, parking access, and trail choice
  • once snows cover the region the outings will mostly be snowshoeing events, but if have some unseasonably mild weather, an on-the-snow trek may be a good choice
  • dress for the conditions and bring your 10 Essentials for winter conditions if the temperature drops
  • read the listing carefully to see if the outing is right for you
  • we will hike/snowshoe together for safety and for peace of mind

On December 12, the event will likely be a local hike, but as week passes by, on the snow activities will be the norm.   Early snowshoe outings will be trail routes, but as our fitness improves, we will be off-trail (breaking trail), then later in the season we will do some good climbs.

Wednesday Wanderings:

  • get out into the outdoors mid-week
  • exercise and fitness objectives
  • varied routes to show members new areas
  • a group outing with a group ambience, but low-key
  • increasing challenges from late fall to late winter as fitness and endurance improves

If:

  • if it dry we will do a local hike of 2 – 2.5 hours
  • if it is wet and muddy – we will pick a shorter hike where mud is less likely
  • if it is snowy, we will pick a good on-the snow hike (2 hours)
  • if there is lots of snow, we will be a high country snowshoe

Wednesday Wanderings:

  1. Coal Hill – Oct. 21
  2. Ponds and Lakes Tour – Oct. 28
  3. East Rim – Nov. 5
  4. Dufferin Ridge – Nov. 13
  5. Valleyview Silt Cliffs – Nov. 19
