Description

A 3 day backpacking trip to the beautiful Joffre Lakes and then a climb to the Taylor and Tszil Peaks

Sunday July 17 – Meet in Kamloops and drive 4 hours to the Joffre Lakes Trailhead.  Meet up at the trailhead at 2:oo pm.  From the trailhead, hike the 5.5 km moderate trail (400m elevation gain) and set up camp adjacent to the upper lake.  This back country campsite is equipped with an outhouse and bear cache.  Expect to be at the camp by 5:00 pm.

Monday July 18 – Hike to the top of Taylor Peak above the Upper Joffre Lake.  This is a harder route that will involve some low level scrambling adjacent to a snow field.  We will not be crossing any glaciers while on this route.  This is a steep climb with an elevation gain of 600m over a 4.5 km route.  Once on the top of Taylor, we will return to a col and then ascend the Tszil Peak.  Some scrambling will be involved here as well.  Once we have enjoyed the 360 degree views from the peaks, we will descend back down to our camp.  Expect to be on the hill for approximately 7 hours.

Tuesday July 19 – Pack up camp early and return to Kamloops.

This event is being held between the Wedgemount Lake trip and the Elfin Lake trip.  Participants from these events are welcome or this can be considered a stand alone event.  The leader will be attending these two other events and will meet all participants at the trailhead.

Must be experienced, fit and fully equipped for back country camping.

The leader reserves the right exclude participants that may not have the experience, fitness level or suitability for this demanding outing.
