Description
A hike on trail, crossing some fences, visiting past old homesteads, along sidehills, using some old tracks, and some off-trail traversing, all in a scenic, but rugged loop.
- Route – Pruden Pass >Wheeler slopes > Harris Homestead > Pruden Pass viewpoint (lunch stop) > three-way junction > Massey Lake > sidehill traverse along the old wooden fenceline > Sohrenson Homestead > Damgaard Homestead > Mara north ridge down (William Fortune’s Quarter section) > start
- we may encounter snow, ice, mud, dry conditions, ticks, etc. so prepare for all
- the Harris Homestead is the best of the remaining 100+ year old homesteads of the Lac du Bois area
- thanks to Nic Verbruggen for some of the research on the homesteads
- if you want to learn how to record a track and waypoints (they are needed to find the homesteads) with your gps, bring it with you
- this route is hilly which will challenge your fitness and the route will be rough in spots
