Description
A longer hike for a small, hardy group across the Opax Mountain lava cliffs
- meet up at the trailhead at Lac du Bois (by the gate)
- hike from Lac du Bois over Opax Mountain with lunch on top of the bluffs, then hike down the East Opax route and back to the start
- a long hike requiring a measure of fitness
- a fair amount of off-trail traversing (and some bushwhacking!)
- tick and mosquito season; lots of bears in the area too
- the route is not obvious, so stay with the leader
- some of the route is on double tracks, but one section will be off-trail on the viewpoint ridge
- a small group event (6 only) to support social distancing and safety in the backcountry
- I can’t easily run two groups because no one else knows this route, so it will be 6 only, but we might find a way to stagger two groups at only 5 minutes apart?
