Description

Meet up at Paul Lake Road at 9:00 am to arrange carpooling.  Drive to Clearwater and meet up with the leader at the Wells Gray Info Center about 10:30.  Drive up to the trailhead at the Pyramid Campsite.  This is a long trail, we will be on the trail for about 7 hours with a return time to Kamloops before 8:00 pm.

We are doing this trail early in the season to avoid the bugs (this is the worse are in the park for bugs).  The downside to an early start is that the trail might be wet – be prepared for some mud in the lower marshy areas.  The other problem is that the park crews will likely not have been through to clear away any deadfall (I snow shoed half the trail in February and ran into a could downed trees)

From the trailhead, we hike along a park trail which winds through forest and some marshes.  We then skirt around Pyramid mountain (about 100m elevation gain) and then back towards the Murtle River.  From here the trail generally follows the river upstream to the falls – an 11 km hike.

Although not difficult terrain – this is a long hike – you must be fit enough to do 22 km at a steady pace.

Bring headlamps just in case, however we should be off the trail with plenty of light left.

This is a dog friendly event.  The leader will be bringing a dog.
