Description

A point-to-point route on the trails of the Hemp Creek Canyonlands in Wells Gray Park

  • An early start because of the longer drive there and back
  • meet up at the Paul Lake meetup spot at 8:00
  • Drive to the trailhead (30 km up the Corridor Road)
  • Drop off a vehicle to the Moul Falls parking lot and shuttle the group
  • Hike down the Flatiron Trail with side routes to see the Flatiron, Are Falls, Trout Creek Canyon, Hemp Falls,  Coal Creek Falls, the Birch Bluffs Rim, and Moul Falls, a long day (McDiarmid Falls is an option)
  • A 13 km route with lunch on the Birch Bluffs viewpoint
  • Fitness will be a key factor in a successful day
  • We will need 3 vehicles (one for the shuttle) so we will organize the groups size by the number of seats and rivers
  • Some if the junctions are hard to see (or invisible) so the group must stay together (no front runners or stragglers for this hike (not fun for the rest of the group))
  • We will use a GPS track to ensure we get to all the right spots
  • Since we have no way to know how long it will take (conditions, speed of the hikers, finding the routes, road conditions, etc.), participants can’t have an early return time (don’t register if you do).
  • We will be stopping to take some photos (quickly) and to pause to enjoy the birds, bees, wildflowers, and wildlife so we be asking hikers to use the volume control wherever possible
  • We will be in a provincial park so we would we following their rules for dogs (on leash), but with some cliffs here and there we want to keep everyone safe so we will not be permitting dogs this time.
  • Watch the listing for updates, especially over the last 48 hours.
