Description

Cornwall Hills PP lies southwest of Cache Creek and Ashcroft.   Cornwall Mtn is 6880 ft high and access from hwy 1, 7.5 south of Ashcroft.   The leader has done this hike only once so it may be a challenge to find trailhead quickly!  Turn west onto the Hat Creek FSR (2 wheel drive road) and follow for 13 km.

The route starts up in forest and we hike 8.5 km up a sheltered double track route to open up to grassy meadows up top.  Views extend south and west.  This hike will go even if there is a dusting of snow on the ground but not if it is a stormy day.  The views will be there even on a cold clear day – just bring some good warm layers to keep you warm for lunch at the top. October can give us some great late season hiking days, cool and no bugs.

A full day outing with a good steady climb and reasonable distance gaining 857 metres (2811 ft) over the 8.5 km distance.  Should be a good workout!

Backup plan will be to go up to Barnhartvale and do a 10km loop around the Barnhartvale Barnes Lake Trails.
