Some changes and new features are ongoing with work done by the webmaster.

1. Facebook Feed

The Club has 2 Facebook groups and one Facebook page.   We can share an event or a post from the website to any one of the three, but until now, we couldn’t display Facebook posts, etc. on our website.   Facebook doesn’t allow posts from Facebook groups to be fed to web pages so we had to create a new Facebook page.     To avoid anyone posting inappropriate material to our page, we have restricted who can post to the page (right now only the Admin) but we will be adding some Hike Leaders to the list too.   We have set up the website so that posts from the Facebook page Kamloops Hiking Club now  feed to our website.   We can share posts from the group to the page, but we can’t feed shares since that is restricted by Facebook for privacy reasons.   Members don’t need to know all the technical and policy reasons for all of this.    For now, the simple explanation is that we can feed posts from our page to the website and vice versa.

We use Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and Instagram to promote our Club and provide information to members, but making all of this work in an integrated way is technical in nature and time-consuming.

2. Slideshow

A new seasonal slideshow is now shown on the right side of the website called Fall of 2018.   the photos are harvested from our Facebook Group then added to a slideshow.   Since it is time consuming to do this, we only do the work seasonally, picking selected photos.  Older slideshows are still available and we will provide a page of links when time permits.

3. Trails and Locations

We are updating and adding lots of trails information at a rate of 20 a month.   To see this information go to the Trails page (hover your cursor over the menu bar and look below Event Info).     links are also provided in each newsletter.

4. Blogs

We add blog posts from time to time.    A carousel showing links to the last three blogs is on the right side of the website.

5.   Meetups

A simple meetup system is in place for members.    Click Meetups on the sidebar for more information.    Meetup comments feed to the main listing of comments for everyone to see on the front page.

6. Membership

We will not be displaying any membership links until the first of February.   the pages are ready but we won’t make them visible until the renewals period.   Similarly, we will enable the new memberships pages and links a month later.
