Transition Time
Trail conditions
- The lowest areas will start to dry, but there will be some mud and ice too.
- The hills will be drier on south facing slopes, but there may be mud, ice, or snow on any given route. Carry traction devices to be safe and have a change of boots ready.
- The High Country will retain its snow cover for a month or more and snowshoeing will continue, but if it gets warm, the snow will turn slushy and then freeze overnight.
- Experienced hike leaders know which trails can be hiked in the transition time, but we can find surprises at any time of the year.
Members
- Members who have renewed will carry on with registering and participating in events.
- New members can start to book into events by March 1st, but there may be a learning curve so members are asked to be patient and helpful, where possible.
- Some events fill up quickly. Renewed members know this, so they check regularly. New members will find they need to plan a week ahead to join in on posted events.
- Membership registrations will continue through the month and we will be adding more new members, a few at a time.
- All members are asked to be ambassadors during club events, in welcoming new members, and in supporting hike leaders.
Tick Season
- As soon as the weather warms up, we will find ticks out on the trails. By mid-March, hikers need to take the usual precautions.
- Experienced hikers in the club have a variety of precautions they take. Talk to them while on a hike.
Ten Essentials
- We don’t check for the Ten Essentials, but if we see hikers who are obviously not prepared, we will address that. Our Guidelines and Expectations are quite clear on each individual’s responsibility for adequate preparation.
- Hike leaders are volunteers who go out in good faith that each person is being responsible.
See you on the trails.
