- for updates to the page, contact khc@kamloopshikingclub.net
Notifications
- Members can receive an email when a new event is published.
- There is no online subscription service since its free so we have to manually add each one
- Send an email to khc@kamloopshikingclub.net to be added or removed (but be patient since it is done by a volunteer)
Contact Us
- At this time the main contact email address is info@kamloopshikingclub.net as noted on the Contact Us page
- The Board is working on which Directors will be listed as contacts (general enquiries, hike leaders status and program, support, new members, etc.)
Vehicle Access
- Driving on mountain backroads is a bit of guesswork, especially early in the season (June and July)
- Hike leaders will not have been on the roads prior to the event so they rely on past experience plus a little investigation
- High mountain backroads are rarely graded so they are almost always high clearance, for part of, or sometimes most of the way in
- Some backroads are 4WD
- After a rain storm some high clearance roads turn in to 4WD access
- there is no public information service for updates on backroads, except from a few reports from users online, but that is also hit-and-miss
- in provincial parks, updates may be available, but it is rarely reliable
- when we can carpool, we can sometime help with rides on high clearance or 4WD roads, but not during the epidemic
- if a posted KHC event is listed as having access for high clearance, we have no way of knowing if your vehicle will be suitable; you have to determine that yourself
- generally speaking, trucks are better than SUVs and full SUVs are better than light SUVs, which are better than a regular vehicle
- if you don’t have access to a high clearance vehicle, the posted event may not be right for you during the epidemic
Time and Distance
Some general guides are provided here:
- Hiking on good trails can be done at about 3.5 km/h (3.0 to 4.0)
- Hiking on hilly terrain will more likely be at about 3.0 km/hour
- Hiking with scrambling and route finding may be 2.5 to 3.0 km/h
- Stops for lunch, photos, bathroom breaks, etc. adds to the time
- So 10 km on hilly terrain would be about 3.5 hours, for example
- Hike leaders may list total distance (usually) or time, or both.
Website Help
- the Website Help Page has been updated
- a reminder to all website users to clear your browser’s cache from time to time
KHC Social Distancing Policy
- the page has been updated (KHC Info > page)
Trails and Locations
- every event has a Location (link)
- if you click the link it will send you to a page with more information – maps, images, access, trail information, etc.
- we ask members to check the posted information first before asking a volunteer to explain what is already posted (with our thanks)
More updates will be posted.
