Modeling For an Opening Up of Future Small Group Hikes
A few hike leaders and long-term members are still out hiking, but are also modeling a safe way to do small group hikes. These are informal and unofficial at this time, but the hikes may serve as a model for the future, once the go-ahead to cautiously restart is given, first by the Province, then by our Board of Directors.
Here is a summary:
- Small groups (2-5 at this time, but it could be 2 – 8). Our experience is that groups of 10+ tend to be more problematic.
- No carpooling. Meetup at a convoy point or at the trailhead.
- Social distancing for the entire experience, including lunch, viewpoints, etc.
- No sharing.
- No participation from any member who is not well.
- Carry gloves, mask, and sanitizer, but not required to be worn while hiking.
- Pick hikes at non-prime times and at locations with few people at the trailhead and on the trails (hikers, walkers, dog walkers, mountain bikers). Busy single track trails should be avoided.
- Registration system to be determined by the leader (online registration, Requires Leader Registration, dogs or not, etc.)
- Non-compliance of safety requirements will not be accepted.
- No Guests for the foreseeable future.
- Completely optional for all members to join in any hike or not.
