Logging In Problems and Solutions
KHC uses the website to display events set up by hike leaders, members register or cancel online, and both leaders and members comment. We register, do our waivers, and pay online too, all by logging in first. From the admin point of view, we set it all up and we ask members to login (username and password). The system works but sometimes members struggle with logging in. This is not a problem created by the website. It is instead a problem with using a web browser.
If members use a web browser to log in, complete their business, then close down, there may be no problems. But if the user makes login mistakes, the browser may be caching the errors and further attempts may not work. Captcha is there to foil (ro)bots, but it could send users with a cache problem into an endless loop too. The same kinds of problems could also occur if users leave their browsers on all of the time.
Vehicles need maintenance on a regular basis, but browsers do too. We can automatically set them up to conduct maintenance, or we can manually do it. If members start to see problems logging in, they can try one of these steps:
- close the browser and restart it
- change to a different browser and try logging in
- or, the best choice – clear your browser’s cache
Each browser has different steps to do this last task. The simplest way to view the steps required is to do a Google Search with key works like “clear cache microsoft edge”
Some links are provided here (or do a Google Search):
Clear the Cache:
For other browsers like Safari, Internet Explorer, etc. , do a Google Search.
You can also set up your browser to clean itself up regularly. Do a Google Search to see how to do this.
This also applies to using other websites so its good to learn how to clean up your browser for use of the internet on your computer.
