News About Hike Leaders
Welcome to our newest hike leaders Janine Leduc, Lori Rilkoff, and Dianne Smith.
Lori and Dianne will work together to organize and lead hikes on established trails. They will be offering some Tuesdays Trails events, starting at 11:00. They will list possible locations, but make a final decision in the last 48 hours so participants will need to check the event listing for the meet-up location. None of the events will have carpooling since they will start at nearby trailheads (ie Kenna Cartwright, Pineview, Valleyview, Dallas-Barnhartvale, Aberdeen, Peterson Creek, Rivers Trail, etc.). Watch for the first events on the website.
News for Hike Leaders:
We have tweaked some of the settings on the website as follows:
- Hike Leaders will see a much cleaner, uncluttered look in the front end of the website with less options in the top admin bar and in the back end with a reduced dashboard list. The key elements for posting and editing events are still there.
- Hike leaders will not be able to edit each other’s events at this time. If two of you are organizing the event, one can post the event and make the edits, and the other can help with the event itself. If some kind of emergency arises requiring a change to an event listing, hike leaders can contact one of the Editors of the website for help.
- KHC has long-standing form standards for publication on the website, established by the Board of Directors, which can be seen by clicking on the Hike Leaders Resources Page (under Help on the menu bar). A link is provided here – KHC Website Standards. When events are published that do not meet the established standards, one of the editors usually makes a minor change. This is usually adjusting capitals, punctuation, spelling, grammar, usage, spacing, etc. in the event title which stands out on the front page of the website. The goal is maintain a uniform, professional standard for our primary interface with the public.
- KHC’s policy on Active and Inactive Leaders is on the website – Hike Leaders (link).
Future Events
We have created a new event category of Future Camps or Backpacks for the upcoming season. When they are still in tentative, they will only appear on the Backpacks and Camps Page on the website. Once the events are confirmed by the leaders, they will appear on the main event listings on the front page.
Similarly we now have a Future Draft Events category and those events will only appear in the lower widget in list form until the event is confirmed. At that point the category will be changed and it will appear in the main front page widget.
Short term Draft Events will still appear on the main page if the date, time, etc. is confirmed, but registration is not yet enabled.
