An Update for Members
From our recent Board meeting some decisions were made and this short announcement explains some of those related to the website and posted KHC events.
Group Size
Provincial guidelines still prescribe groups of 2 – 6, but we piloted a couple of events where we had 2 leaders at the same event, each with a group of 6 or less. The groups have a staggered start and the groups may be in voice range, but not close together. The Board approved this sort of event. this means that events can be 2-6 with one leader, or 7-12 if two leaders can be recruited.
The Board acknowledges that there are too few spaces to meet the interests of all members, but while social distancing measures are still required, the Club cannot meet the normal expectations of members. We can just do what we are able to do during this special time.
Website – Information Access
An initiative was put in place to make some website information only available to logged-in members. A committee was struck to look at the content on the website. At this time some of the pages and events have sections not visible unless logged in (which only members can do).
The idea here is that access to information is a benefit of membership but also there are some privacy issues to better manage.
Membership Information – Guests – Minors
At this time, KHC is not registering any new members for the foreseeable future, nor is the club allowing guests so the information is now hidden on the website.
Backpacks and Camps
- Backcountry campsites in our National Parks are not yet open and may not open, so it will affect posted backpacks.
- Backcountry in Provincial Parks and in Provincial Rec Sites is still closed, and so it may affect some backpacks.
- Backpacks to locations that are not in Provincial Parks or to BC Rec Sites may be an alternative.
- Where Provincial Parks are open to camping, scheduled base camps can proceed.
Keeping Hike Leaders Up-to-Date
A website page will be developed to keep hike leaders up-to-speed on the Club’s decisions and initiatives. Hike leaders will be directed to the page and they will be asked to confirm they have read and understood the information.
