Kamloops Hiking Club communicated through Facebook in its early years and a group called Kamloops Hiking Club was set up. Before there were registered members, fees, waivers, a website, and so on, a loosely-knit group used the Facebook Group to set events and share. As the Club grew, things changed. Kamloops Hiking Club was an informal group to start with, but as the club expanded, it needed to deal with insurance, risk management, safety, informed consent, and best practice in organizing trips into the backcountry.
