Mid-February News Update
Membership Renewals:
- Over 100 members have renewed and have now received email notification.
- Renewals continue through February and beyond.
- Unrenewed memberships expire Feb. 29th and website accounts will be frozen on March 1st.  Renewals can still be done after March 1st. but the path will be slightly different.
New Memberships:
- KHC will be accepting registrations, waivers, and fees for new memberships on Feb. 15th.  A Membership Registration button will be displayed on the front page that morning (but not too early).
- New memberships will be processed and notifications will be sent out once all steps are complete.  Member accounts for new members will be active on March 1st.
- At that time, new members can login, update their profile, see pages that are only visible to members, may book into events, may cancel (as needed), and may comment to events, posts, etc.
- New memberships and renewals will continue through March and we will advise the membership of the current status (number of members, possible end date for registration, etc.) along the way.

Emails/News:
- KHC has moved ahead with new steps for better email communications with members and interested subscribers.
- In the Membership Renewal and New Membership Registration process, we can now send short newsletter notifications, as needed (this is already happening).
- KHC News Items or Newsletters may be “broadcast” to members, as required.  Many members already subscribe to the monthly newsletter (see the footer area to subscribe).
- Starting soon, we will be able to “broadcast” event notices by email.  We can do this per event or in some regular pattern, like once a week.  We would initially send it to all members, but individual members can opt out, by unsubscribing.
- We can also use this service to send out mini-newsletters to hike leaders when appropriate.
- For members who continue to use legacy email systems (inc. Hotmail, MSN, AOL, and Yahoo) or any service with restrictive defaults, the emails may end up in Spam or Junk files or may be rejected, so it may not work for them.
- We have had a long term request (7 years) for this kind of email/notification service and we will be able to do this very soon, pending completion of some test broadcasts and some tweaking of the service to meet our needs and the suggestions of members.
