- Welcome back to our Himalayan trekkers (and KHC hike leaders): Ed, Lois, Ernie, John, and Carole; and our Utah hikers/leaders: Michelle, Sharon, and Helen.   Best of luck to our leaders who will be touring Europe and other overseas destinations who will be gone for the rest of the summer (Sheila, Frith, Ian, and Mark).

Hiking the Coquihalla Summit
Each year, KHC leads hikes into the Coquihalla Summit Area.  Most hikes are steep, but are worth the effort.   The most moderate routes are Falls Lake, Little Douglas Lake, and Zoa Peak.  Steeper and more difficult trails on established trails include Yak Peak, Needle Peak, and Flatiron Mountain.  There are also a number of backcountry more difficult routes to Illal Meadows, Guanaco Peak, Thar Peak, Iago Peak, Llama Peak, Zupjok Peak, and July Mountain.   There are a number of scramble routes too – Markor Mountain, Zopkios Ridge, Nak Peak, Zum Peak, Jim Kelly Peak, and more.
Traveling to the various trailheads is a 2 hour drive each way and the hikes can be long so weather will be an important factor in determining if the hike is a “go” or will be cancelled.  Snow lingers in the Coquihalla until early July so any hikes will be in the July – October period.  Watch for posted events and make sure you read the listing carefully to make sure the hike is the right one for you.
