KHC Newsletter – June 9, 2018
KHChirps
- Our thanks to the active hike leaders who have organized events recently – Sam Chow, Paulette Gendron, Gerry Hoye, Judy Karr, Michelle Dressler, Helen Gendron, Carole and John Moslin, Katherine Roberts, Ray Conway, and Doug Smith.
- Guest Registrations for KHC events are not available at this time.  Links have been taken off the website and hike leaders have been advised.   If/when we can offer these opportunities again, we will advise, via the newsletter.
- KHC will have a new insurance program this month.  Details can be seen at this link. The Insuror requires waivers to be completed for all members and guests, as in the past.
- The Summer Summit Series has now been posted.  An overview can be seen at this link.
- Summer is a time when KHC hike leaders organize camps and backpacks and they also join other leaders camps/backpacks.  Many will be busy all summer.
- KHC currently has 260 members.   From this total, 207 have participated in an event in 2018.  Even though we have initiated a number of new opportunities for the 53 other new members, we have been unable to recruit them to our events over 6 months, so we are assuming that this will not change moving forward because this pattern has also happened in previous years.     KHC would prefer to have 100% of its members active, but with our current volunteer capacity and program, we have 80% actively participating.  The Board of Directors will be looking at what can be done to increase the ratio from 80% to 85% or even 90% for the following year.
Isobel Lake
The Isobel Lake Low Mobility Trail is now complete.  Thanks to the Kamloops Thompson Trails Alliance for their work over the last few years on this project.  Kamloops Hiking Club and FMCBC were also contributors to the project in its early stages and a few of our members assisted in work parties.  Special thanks to Al Michel of the Kamloops Outdoor Club for his dedication and many hours of work on the trail. Here is some of the media coverage:
