KHC Newsletter – June 27, 2019
KHChronicles
- Our thanks to the hike leaders who led events in June – Paulette Gendron, Ray Conway, Judy Karr, John and Carole Moslin, Lisa Boutry, Gerry Hoye, Sam Chow, Sasha Lees, Ernie Carson, Helen Gendron, Katherine Roberts, Doug Smith, and Sheila Powell.
- We took an informal poll in our last newsletter asking members which hikes they would like to see offered.  We only had 3 responses and they included Mt. Buse, Bluebird Trail, slot canyons in September, easier hikes in our area, the loop around Long Lake, local backpacking (Clearwater/Stein/Coquihalla), and Kettle Valley Rail Trails/The Great Trail (on bike). Some have been offered already this year or are on the schedule and the rest will be ideas for hike leaders.
- We have revised our Event Categories.     Categories are removed if there are no events offered for 6 – 12 months (depending on seasonality) and new categories may be added to match the interests and goals of hike leaders and members.  More information can be found on the Categories Page.

- Here is FMCBC’s Summer Cloudburst Newsletter – Cloudburst-SS-2019
- At FMCBC’s AGM the organization revised its rates for both membership and insurance.  The end result is that we will be paying a dollar more this year, or $19 of $30 KHC membership fees.  More information on FMCBC can be seen at this link.  Welcome to the Kamloops Outdoor Club, which has also joined FMCBC.
- The winner of the June draw for hike leaders was Gerry Hoye.
- As we move into summer, day events become more infrequent because hike leaders are off backpacking or at camp and hike destinations.
- A number of destination hiking events require a long drive (both ways) so hike leaders look at the forecast before giving the go-ahead.
- A few summit hikes will be posted as Rambles (short notice/small group/leader registration).  Check the website for these event listings.
- The Clive Giolma Memorial Bench base has been installed in Peterson Creek Park.  We will post an announcement when it is finally finished.
- Kamloops Hiking Club members can get a 10% discount for a lift pass at Sun Peaks.  High Five Day at Sun Peaks is July 15th.  No discount applies that day, but the cost of a lift ticket is $5 and a donation to the Food Bank.
- Both BC Parks and BC Recreations Sites and Trails post warnings on their websites if there is a bear issue at a particular site.  Recently there was a challenging bear in the Isobel Lake area and a grizzly in the Trophy Meadows.  Check the websites for updates.
- Newsletters will be published once a month.  Announcements and short news item will be posted in the widgets on the right side of the website between newsletters.  The header image for the newsletter will change several times each month.
- Link to past news items.
No Events at this time.
