The club reinstated in-person events on May 26th, 2021 with a capacity of up to 10 people, hike leader included, in addition to following KHC Social Distancing Policies.

The club will continue to follow the Provincial Health Organization guidelines and restrictions on outdoor gatherings and group sports and update organized events as the PHO plan unveils.

Welcome to our new hike leaders: Shelley Nohels, Monika Taki, and Maureen Thorkelson. We look forward to the exciting hikes you’ll be taking us on!

General Hiking Safety: Be Adventure Smart this season and follow these three steps – Trip Planning, Training, Taking the Essentials. For in-depth information check out the Adventure Smart website here.

Wildlife Safety: There is an abundance of wildlife out on the trails this year. Always make noise and stay with your group. Have a plan before you head out on the trail as to how your group will react if you come across an animal. For more information about bear and cougar safety click here.

Mosquito Safety

When confronted with swarming mosquitoes, protect yourself first. You are no good to others if you are being swarmed.
Place a mosquito net over your head. Remain calm, avoid flailing your arms about, you may inadvertently hit a fellow hiker. Of course, you can always say you were slapping a mosquito that was hunkering down.
Next form a circle with fellow hikers while taking out mosquito repellent. Hikers should now work efficiently as a team to spray exposed areas.
Mosquitos may be blood-sucking pests, however, with proper prevention, they won’t suck the life out of your hike.
