KHC Newsletter – July 23, 2018
KHChirps
- Members are invited to join in the hike and/or the dinner this week to say farewell to Michelle Dressler.
- Many thanks to the hike leaders (Paulette, Katherine, Sheila, Gerry, Ray, Lois and Ed, and Wendy) who have taken on the role of organizing backpacking trips or camps for KHC members.
- Many of our active hike leaders will be away on backpacks or camps over the next 6 weeks.
- Before going into the backcountry it may be best to check for online advisories of trail conditions, bear activity, road closures, fire danger, and other alerts.  The National Parks and Provincial Parks all provide these on the top of their webpages.   BC Rec Sites and Trails, some of our Tourism organizations, and some communities also provide some information for visitors.   Some of the links are now provided in a KHC News item – Advisories.  Members are encouraged to check for these alerts, not just the hike leaders.
- A new Blog is now posted to the website – Many Types of Hikes.
- KHC has a policy that deals with types of activities that are not active.  Over the last two years, we have stopped organizing nordic skiing, road cycling, and mountain biking.  If no leader organizes a sport-specific event for 6-9 months, we remove it from our category list.  It can be re-added at a later time if we have a leader that would like to restart some outings of that type.  Paddling may also be going that way with no leaders to organize on-the-water events.
- We are continuing to recruit new hike leaders.  More information can be found on the Hike Leaders Page.
