KHC Newsletter – August 31, 2019
KHChronicles:
- September is a transition month as we finish camps and backpacks and, as life settles into a fall schedule, more day events will be posted for members.
- Our thanks to the hike leaders who led events in August – Paulette Gendron, Judy Karr, Lisa Boutry, Doug Smith, Katherine Roberts and Sam Chow, Sheila Powell and any co-leaders who supported them.
- The winner of the KHC draw for hike leaders in August was Sheila Powell.
- Here is FMCBC’s August Newsletter
- FMCBC has shared some links with us.  A rich website with lots of information on building trails is American Trails.  A number of webinars are also available to members -The Devil is in the Details: Common Trail Design Mistakes and How to Avoid Them, Improve Your Volunteer Stewardship Toolbox, Trail Towns – Leveraging Trails for Community and Economic Development, and Social Media + Trails: Growing and Engaging Your Followers. Contact us if you want to view the webinars (we have been asked to not publish the links).  The regular cost for each webinar is $39, but it is free to KHC members.
- KHC will be in a continue-as-is-state into the fall.  A Board meeting will be scheduled for early November and topics for discussion will be Guests, Family and Minors, Renewal and Registration dates, Hike Leader Recruitment, Club Size, budgets, and more.  If you have concerns with any issues, please pass on your thoughts to a Board member (link) in September and October.
- Which hikes would you like a hike leader to organize?  Contact individual hike leaders if you know one of them or send your ideas to khc@kamloopshikingclub.net and we will distribute the list to all hike leaders.
- Newsletters will be published once a month. Announcements and short news items will be posted in the widgets on the right side of the website between newsletters. The header image for the newsletter will change several times each month.
From time to time, we will feature future plans from our hike leaders:
- Sheila Powell is continuing to host backpacks and camps which continue to the end of the month.  Sheila will be skiing over the winter, but will post some “winter walks” using traction devices when conditions permit.
- Doug Smith is continuing with camps in September, but has also scheduled some fall hikes to favorite “haunts” and special spots not done by other leaders.
- Katherine Roberts has not hiked much this summer, but she is planning to start posting new events (some in partnership with Sam Chow) in the fall.
- Gerry Hoye is taking a break to allow his knees some recovery time and he hopes to lead more hikes starting later in the month.
- Our Fall Potluck is planned with dates to be decided soon.  Watch for a new listing soon.
