KHC Newsletter August 2021
Despite smokey skies and wildfires limiting club events, members have been able to enjoy some adventurous hikes, paddles, and rides.  A big thank you to Doug Smith, Lisa Boutry, Sheila Powell, Lawrence Barichello, Nicole Yanko, Margo Mercier, and Paulette Gendron for organizing and co-leading events. Â
Doug Smith has been leading Smoke-Dodge hikes with success and adventure.Â
Lisa Boutry led a jubilant group on the coast hiking and paddling in the ocean.Â
Sheila Powell has led some magnificent local mountain hikes with wonderful sights of the alpine flowers. Congratulations to Sheila who won the July Leader Recognition prize!
Lawrence Barichello organized a fabulous backpack for Elfin lakes. Â
Nicole Yanko put countless hours in organizing a backpack for the Rockies which unfortunately due to weather and smoke was postponed for next year, however, the members relished a local hike to Bow Peak glacier waterfall.
I have also had some success with windows of blue sky and breathable air for a hike and paddle at Paul lake, as well as, a ride in Kenna Park. There was also an attempt at a Backpack for Mt Fitzwilliam, but that was cancelled last minute to due trail closure from flooding and slides. Â
Members can visit the ‘Monitoring Conditions‘ page on the KHC website for updated information on air quality, Kamloops forecasts, forest fires, drive BC, and alerts and closures.Â
Stay safe and wishing you happy adventures,
Paulette Gendron – KHC President
