July KHChronicles
A mid-month KHC digest:
- The KHC Trail Reports Page has been updated.
- Wells Gray Park/Info Center have updated the Trail Reports page – link.
- With frequent rainy days, scheduling hiking events has been difficult and we would like to thank members for their patience.
- Summer camps often mean that a number of our hike leaders are all away climbing mountains.
- KHC is still operating at 33 – 50% of its usual capacity because of social distancing restrictions.  With smaller groups and fewer leaders, event spaces fill quickly.  More leaders would help, but that has not been easy to achieve (contact us if you can help).  If the epidemic continues into 2021, the Board will be looking at the possibility of reducing the number of members for the upcoming year.
- KHC is looking for more hike leaders.  If you are interested, we can find another leader to work with you.  You lead the actual hike and your co-leader can post the event and help.
- Two KHC groups are off backpacking this week.  Best of luck to Sheila and her group on Flatiron Mountain and Paulette and her group on the Heather Trail in Manning Park.
- BC Recreation Sites “provide a rustic camping experience. Generally located in remote areas and accessed by gravel forestry roads, recreation sites provide basic facilities, such as fire-rings, picnic tables, outhouses, and, where appropriate, boat-launching ramps.Potable water and electricity is not provided.”  A full list of the sites can be found at this link.
- A high-altitude ski resort is planned for the mountains near Valemount.   KHC has a scheduled hike on Mt. Pierre Elliott Trudeau, the site for the new development.  Here is an article.
- FMCBC’s July newsletter – link.
- FMCBC’s Summer issue of Cloudburst can be read at this link – Cloudburst.
- Members are encouraged to contact hike leaders directly to discuss event details (a private communication) rather than use comments (a public communication).   Hike leaders list their email addresses with each listing.
- Coming up this month – Trail Talk, then the July newsletter about August 1st.

Website Help:
- There is a page on the website with “how-to” information.  On the Menu Bar find More Info/Help and click the Website Help link.  Since Telus moved their email addresses to Gmail, members will need to edit their profiles to adjust their Contact Info.
- Members can receive an email notification when a new event is published.  This gives some members (about 40 right now) an edge to getting event spaces before they fill up. See the widget on the lower right side for more information.
- The website has undergone a few changes and if you had encountered any challenges during that time, you will need to clear the cache in your internet browser (do an internet search to find out how to clear your cache).  You can also check your browser settings, clear history, delete old bookmarks and links, restart your computer, try a different browser (Firefox, Edge, and Chrome are recommended), and do computer clean-up.  The website is stable at this time, but members who used the site in the transition process may need to get rid of old data links, caches, and saved shortcuts.
The next KHChronicles will be published in mid-August so send any info you may have to khc@kamloopshikingclub.net.Â
