Description

This is one of the most popular and scenic hikes at the summit area of the Coquihalla Highway.   The peak is named after the zoa which is a member of the yak family.  The trail starts from the Falls Lake parking area and follows a pipeline right of way at the beginning, then at a cairn turns up the cutbank and up into the trees.  Follow occasional flagging tape through an open rocky area covered in phlox and stonecrop which at this time of year should be lovely fall colors.   Here the views start to open up with fine views of the Coquihalla Mountains to the south.   Trees thin out as you ascend and the trail travels through subalpine country to the first summit.  The second summit is some 54 m lower and it is a relatively flat area with views through the trees.  The route gains 635 m over 4.5 km at an average grade of 11.5%.  We will have lunch at the summit and return by the same route.

We will meet at the Hillside meet up at 0830 to car convoy to trailhead.  If you wish to carpool you should make your own arrangements at the meet up spot.   Masks may be required by the driver.

The hike is weather dependant and could be changed or cancelled if weather is unfavourable.   Wear good boots, and bring poles to assist on the downhill.
