Description
With the heat, the route choice, the distance to be hiked, the distance to travel, etc, in mind, we have opted to pick an in-town shorter route, to be decided by group consensus at the meetup at 9:00.
A hike into the hills in the Lundbom Commonage Grasslands
- an earlier start
- carpool to Lundbom Lake (105 km each way) Grasslands Conservation area
- hike toward Hamilton Lake then up the Cocobonk Trail to the Wounded Knee junction
- an exploratory route on the trails
- lunch along the way
- wildflowers will be out, but some ticks and mosquitoes may be too
- lots of hills but nothing very steep
- some endurance is needed and some of the trail may have deadfall or grown-over areas
- article on the Cocobonk Trail
- a smaller group so we can stay together better and keep track of everyone in the backcountry hills
- grazing cattle, wildlife, and nesting birds makes this a route not suitable for dogs
- if rain is forecast, we will try to reschedule for another date
