Come join us for a combined Waterton/Kananaskis camp and hike from August 14 to August 21, 2023.
- Katherine Roberts, Sheila Powel, Margo Mercier and Doug Morris
- You must be fit and able to do multiple day hikes over a week. We will be hiking about 60 kms over the week.
- One hike involves climbing through a tunnel in the side of the mountain. There are steep drop offs.
- This trip requires leader registration, so please contact Katherine at aussiecan7@shaw.ca
- We will be carpooling as much as possible and many are sharing tent sites and motel rooms.
- Please do not book your motel rooms until you get the go ahead from the leader as hikes could be shuffled yet.
Here is the proposed itinerary:
- August 14Â – Drive 9 hours and 30 minutes to the town of Waterton in Waterton National Park and stay overnight in a motel or a campsite.
- August 15 – Take the boat over to the other side of Waterton Lake and hike the Cyrpt Lake Trail 18.8 km loop trail 675 m elevation gain over 8.5 hours  https://www.alltrails.com/trail/canada/alberta/crypt-lake-trail-loop
- August 16 – Carthew Alderson hike in Waterton 20.3 km 997 m elevation gain over 7 hours. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/canada/alberta/carthew-alderson-trail
- August 16 – second option Bertha Lake – 14 km moderate trail over 5 hours
- August 17Â – Drive to Kananaskis – rest day or easy hike in Kananaskis depending on how we are feeling.
- August 18 – Pocaterra 9.8 km 728 m elevation gain over 5 hours  https://www.alltrails.com/trail/canada/alberta/pocaterra-ridge
- August 19 – Rawson Lake and Sarrail Ridge 11.5 km 1066 m elevation gain in and out trail over 6 hours  https://www.alltrails.com/trail/canada/alberta/sarrail-ridge-via-rawson-lake-trail
- August 20 – Tent Ridge 10.1 km 828 m elevation gain over 5 hours  https://www.alltrails.com/trail/canada/alberta/tent-ridge-horseshoe
- August 20Â – either drive home after hike or stay a night somewhere and visit Banff the next day.
- August 21Â – Day visit in the Banff area then drive home
Our camp and hike trips are trips of a lifetime and a whole lot of fun. These trips are dependent on a positive outlook and ability to agree to alter plans if necessary. Please contact the leader if you are interested in this trip only if you plan to make the commitment.
