Description
This hike can be a long strenuous day, taking about 12 hours from the parking area including rest stops.  So we will plan to leave the parking area early and go past Sheila Lake Lookout, through the meadows and up the 460 m ascent to the west summit.  From the West Summit the highest point of the Trophies is 2 km east, and 50 m higher.  The first 30 minutes after leaving the West Summit are the most difficult, as some scrambling is needed to descent onto the ridge.  Then it is a pleasant but exposed hike along the ridge which in places is less than 20 m wide.  We may return from the west summit via Long hill which is a broad ridge with amazing vistas.
Our goal is the west summit, and exploration beyond will be decided by the group on the day.  From the West Summit to the Trophy Summit is about 2 1/2 hours each way so will make for a very long day.  At this time the worst of the bug season should be over, but it could be a very buggy area.  Be prepared.  Bring lots of fluids and food, and of course layers to sit out time if others wish to explore. There is a lot of rock hopping so be sure to have good sturdy boots, and hiking poles are essential.
Depending on how far we explore elevation is between 600 and 1,000 metres.
We will meet at Paul Lake meet up spot at 0700 to organize car pooling or convoy. This could be a very long day out so do not come on this hike if you need to be back in town at an early time.
