Description
The weather for Sunday is looking pretty good.
The plan is
- Hike up to Sheila Lake Lookout (5 km and 425m elevation gain)
- Cross the Plateau and look at the quickest ascent to Trophy 2
- Hopefully scramble up to Trophy 2 (there will be snow and ice)
- If that route doesn’t look good, we will go up to the Long Hill/Trophy 2 col and access Trophy 2 from there
- Hopefully from Trophy 2 we can continue to the main summit
This will be an all day hike and we will push as far as we can go. If we make it to the main summit, it will be a 24 km round trip with an elevation gain of 885m. This is a demanding outing.
Expect wet snow through the meadows and snow accumulating as we get higher.
The leader will meet anyone who is interested at the Wells Gray Info center at 9:00am. From there the trailhead is about 30 minutes away. Since the days are short, we may be returning through the meadows in the dark – bring a headlamp.
This may be the last chance to get up Trophy before the road gets snowed in. Hope a few people will join me.
