Description
A hike/scramble/swim in the slot canyons
- meet at Brock Shop to carpool
- the trailhead is in Tranquille Canyon and the 1km trail down is steep
- establish a shoreline camp at the creek’s edge next to the north slot
- participants will get wet so a number of options are available – bring a change of boots, wear neoprene socks, wear a wet suit, bring a towel, bring a change of clothes, etc.
- in case you go for an unplanned swim, secure your glasses and keep your camera in a dry bag
- we will wade and scramble through the North Slot – a long hiking staff is very helpful, but poles are okay too
- we will cross the creek (wade through)
- we can explore the South Slot too, but it is much harder to complete, it will be optional
- we will hike over the hill to a fossil bed on the south end of the South Slot where we will have lunch
- when all the exploration is done, we will change to dry clothes and hike back up
- good shoes (boots or light hikers) required
- optional – dry bag, headlamp, helmet, towel, change of clothes
- we will bring a hand line to assist waders
