Description
A hike to the Guardsmen on Tranquille River
- meet at the Brock Dog Park at 10:00 to carpool
- the trailhead is only a few minutes drive at the Mara Trail parking area
- the first part (3 km) of the hike is on older double tracks in the open grasslands
- we turn off and go out a side track overlooking the river
- from this point the route is a steep drop down to the river, a downhill scramble
- participants must be ready to handle steep sections with not much of a trail; good boots are needed and poles would help
- this is not a good route for novices
- we will explore around the hoodoos and landforms down by the river
- an early lunch by the river
- our route back will climb steeply back up, then will traverse some of the rugged hills over to Moby Dick, mostly off-trail, before linking back to the double tracks
- this route will test fitness, off-trail ability/agility, and it will tax your joints, but it is very scenic
- the leader retains the right to screen participants to ensure the group can stay safely together (I will contact you if I am unsure)
