Description

A Wednesday Winter Walk in the Woods – wwww@Jan.27

  • depending on conditions, a 3+ hour snowshoe on Embleton Mountain is planned
  • this is not a novice route and both fitness and experience requirements apply
  • a favorite winter route, but it can be a bit demanding
  • the downhill routes are steeper and some snowshoes are not very effective in that type of terrain
  • if we are breaking trail, it will require good balance and control
  • we will snowshoe together and follow the same route (parallel tracks okay); “doing your own thing” increases the stress level for the leader and also fragments the group, so please don’t join us for this event if this is your style
  • lunch on top at the gazebo
  • a Peaks Series event Δ
  • article – Embleton Mountain in Winter

wwwws:

  • Plan B routes will be chosen if it snows heavily or rains
  • we will try to avoid cancellations, but will comment to the event if heavy rains or very cold weather is predicted
  • early season wwwws will likely be walks on the snow
  • Once the snow depth is over 9″, snowshoe events can start
  • most wwwws will take place at 3000 feet elevation and higher
  • all wwww events will start at 10:00 at a meetup spot tbd – watch the listing
  • participants must be adequately fit to hike on the snow or snowshoe for 3+ hours
  • all outings will be in the forest and not on pay-for-use trails
  • dress for the conditions
  • dog friendly, but if the snow is deep or the temperature is very cold, please choose wisely
  • Good snowshoes, gaiters, and poles are recommended
  • bring something to sit on for our lunch break
  • there will be a weekly event from Dec. 16 through March
