Description

A small-group outing to a remote spot in the Marble Range (part of the Summer Summit Series)

  • Small-group, requires-leader-registration events for members that fit a specific niche (in this case, backcountry treks off a high-clearance, possibly 4WD road) – low-key, but challenging events.
  • Access is via a high-clearance road and since KHC does not organize carpooling during the epidemic, participants have to either drive up the backroad or connect with another member to secure a ride
  • Hike the Porcupine Creek Trail with lunch on top.   Explore on top of Lime Ridge.   Return by the same route.
  • Article on the trail – Porcupine Ridge
  • We will be stopping along the route to take photos.
  • Some of us are camping nearby (at Big Bar Lake) so will meet anyone driving from Kamloops at the trailhead turn-off at a designated time (we will provide driving directions)
  • Contact the hike leader if you are interested. (first places go to anyone who books a campsite).   We can take up to 12 members, broken into 2 hiking groups.

Porcupine Ridge Route (D. Smith)

An Update on the Marble Range Camp

  • Participants are encouraged to fill up in Clinton on  the way in.   It is 38 km to the campsite, then each day will require a return drive of 50-80 km, then 38 km out again.   Those with trailers may want to bring a jerry can of fuel or may want to drive out to Clinton to refill.
  • All 3 trailheads require driving on unmaintained backroads so if anyone has a chainsaw, etc., bring it.   If we find an impassable road, we will pick a different hike for that day (Lime Ridge, Mad Dog Mountain, Mt. Bowman, Pavilion Mountain).
  • Anyone driving to meet us at the trailhead will have to be resourceful.   There are no signs and nowhere to stop to ask for help.   No cell coverage at the bottom (there is on top of the mountains).   This is remote backcountry.
  • We are not organizing carpooling and we are not personally carpooling but any participants can make their own contacts.
  • This is rugged terrain so good boots and poles are recommended.
  • We are in Site 14 at Big Bar Lake and I will be there by Monday afternoon.   We can (socially distanced) do get-togethers each day.

  • For those of you who are only doing the one hike, the meet-up spot is the campground at 9:00.  If you want to meet at the trailhead instead, you will have to contact me before I leave.
  • For the third day, the hike will be longer and possibly warm so bring extra water.
  • These are all very scenic and rewarding hikes so its worth our time to venture out there, but it is remote backcountry so prepare accordingly.
  • If you change your mind about your booking, please cancel.
  • Big Bar Lake is a beautiful spot.   I am bringing my kayak so if you have a boat, you may want to bring it too.
