Description
A KHC Seasonal Favorite!
Experience masses of beautiful spring wildflowers in the meadows high above the idyllic village of Chase, Shuswap Lake, The Shuswap Highlands, and the South Thompson River.
- Bring your camera – the delicate flowers and the breathtaking vistas are worth capturing! Remember – we tread softly, leave no trace, and take nothing away with us other than pictures and memories.
- **IMPORTANT NOTE: Because this is such a wonderful if not somewhat rare opportunity to photograph this spectacle of floral beauty in abundance, Lois is offering to lead a small group of photo-enthusiasts on a photo-safari (light photographic instruction provided for those who request it) prior to the arrival of those who are not avid photo-enthusiasts. Having had considerable experience in photographing these flowers at this location, the prime time to get to the meadows is early in the morning when the light is optimal and the breeze is minimal. Therefore, we will have a two-staged meetup and arrival (trail-head) time:
         1. for those who are interested in the pre-hike photography session, please meet at Market Fresh Foods by 8:00 and then make your way to the secondary meetup place – (Chase Petro Can) where Lois will meet you and guide you to the meadows. This early arrival time should give us a good 45 mins. to photograph to our heart’s content before the rest of the group joins us for the remainder of the hike.
2. Ed will meet the later group (those who are not interested in the Photo Safari) at the Chase Petro Can at 10:00 and lead them to the trail-head at which time both groups will then amalgamate and set out on the hike towards Aylmer/Star Lake. We will stop for lunch once we reach the lake.
3. In the comments section, please indicate whether you wish to be included in the pre-hike Photo Safari.
- Shuswap country is generally a few degrees cooler than Kamloops and we also generally get more precipitation. Dress for the weather and for cool conditions up at the lake (it is not unusual for the lake to still have ice on it in April).
- the timing of this hike coincides with Tick season – take all necessary precautions.
- We may be blessed with a visit from a band of wild and curiously friendly (open range) horses and therefore are requesting that no dogs be present on this hike.
- Permits to access this area (Neskonlith Meadows is situated on property owned by the Adams Lake Indian Band) are required ahead of time and are $5.00 per person. Permits must bear the license plate number, number of participants in each vehicle, and make/model of each vehicle parked on the property. I will pay up-front for the permits and you can reimburse me on the day of the hike. That said…if you’re signed up and I purchase a permit for you, you pay whether you show up or not. I’ll have to purchase the permits on Friday, April 15th as the Band Office is closed on weekends.
- depending on the interest in this seasonal event, we may be able to offer a second hike/photo-safari at the same location. If the event is full and you are interested, please leave a comment.
