Neskonlith Meadows exists within a rolling grasslands bench above the convergence of Little Shuswap Lake and the South Thompson River near Chase, B.C.  The meadows are renown for the amazing displays of colorful spring wildflowers that begin in April and, in various stages – continue in abundance throughout the month of May and include thick patches of avalanche lilies, arrow-leaved balsam root, spring beauties, desert parsley, yellow bells, the exquisite shooting-stars,bluebells, lupines, columbine, and Indian Paintbrush.

We will begin our hike in the meadows and continue hiking slowly upwards stopping along the way to appreciate the wildflowers, the open forest, and the many viewpoints along the way.

The route continues along an old double-track that runs 5 km. to Aylmer(Star) Lake with a vertical gain of 256m (840 feet).  The hike is a moderate but steady climb along uneven and at times, rocky terrain, so wear shoes/boots that offer good support.  There are many opportunities along the way to appreciate breathtaking views of Little Shuswap Lake, the Shuswap Highlands, and the rich agricultural fields that lie in the valley below.

The final part of the double-track leads to Aylmer(Star) Lake which, in April of last year; was still frozen over.  Although it is unlikely that we will encounter any snow at the upper reaches of our hike there this year (because of the unusually mild winter); it remains a slight possibility so dress accordingly as temperatures are typically a few degrees cooler than those in Kamloops.

Neskonlith Meadows is property of the Adams Lake Indian Band and we are required to purchase permits ($5.00 per person) to access these grounds.  As soon as Ed and I have our final headcount for this event; I will pick the permits up at the Band Office and you can reimburse me on the day of the outing.

No dogs please as there is a small herd of wild, open-range horses that frequent this area and I don’t want to risk any conflict.

**Kamloops and area participants will meet at Market Fresh Foods at 9:45 am and then meet with Ed and I at the Chase Petro-Can no later than 10:30 am.  $5 to $7 for gas if you are carpooling depending on how many persons are in the vehicle.**
