Description
UPDATE: Due to the weather forecast being 60% rain, with 5-10mm, we are moving this hike to Saturday, July 11 (one day earlier) with a much better forecast. Same times, etc., just one day earlier.
Katherine Roberts has volunteered to lead a 2nd group, to open up more spaces for this hike. A big “Thank You” for Katherine!
Due to Snow on the upper half of Sun Peaks, and poor conditions on the rest of the trails, I have rescheduled the Sun Peaks Sloth Summit for Aug 20. That leaves an empty Sunday, so I will go check out Mt. Rose Swanson, and am opening up 5 spots in case any club members would like to come along.
The Low Down:
Mt Rose Swanson Trail is a 7-8km loop, with 268m elev gain. (We’ll be doing the large loop.) Great views and lunch spot at the top! We will hike at a moderate pace but will pause for spectacular wildflowers or views!
From the Shuswap Trail Alliance (Great Folks!!) website, a good description:
“A lovely variety of forested trail loops, to several smaller summits, and rock bluffs, overlooking the Spallumcheen Valley above Armstrong.
Named after Rose Swanson, the daughter of Catherine and Augustus Schubert, famous Overlanders who homesteaded in the area in 1862. Mt. Swanson is accessed from the trail heading south from the right/west entrance of the parking area, and Mt. Rose is accessed from the trail on the left/east side. The two trails join to make a large loop, with two alternate side loops off each creating options for extended trips. More information available in the Vernon Outdoor Club’s Hiking Guide available at most bookshops. A trail map is posted at the trailhead and each junction.”

Meet up at the Valleyview Arena Meet Up Spot at 9:00am Saturday. We will drive caravan-style to the trailhead, outside of Armstrong. Following the hike, those who wish, may come in search of good ice cream….
