Description

UPDATE:  Feb 26, 2022 – 12:00 Noon:  Weather looks good for tomorrow – could be a bit of light snow in the morning but the afternoon is forecast to be sun and cloud – nice mix of conditions for great scenery at Mount Baldy!  This hike is happily a GO”!  See you all tomorrow morning at the meet up spot – you can wear snowshoes or traction devices, it’s your choice, but you must have at least one of those with you.  I am still going to wear a skirt….  : D…..

UPDATE:  Feb 24, 2022 – Hikers from last weekend at Mt Baldy have said that traction devices are fine for the trail, however those who may want to step off-trail will want to use snowshoes for this weekend’s hike.  I will like wear crampons.

WEATHER UPDATE:  February 24, 2022:  as of this evening, Environment Canada is showing 40% rain/snow for this Sunday( Feb 27 ).
BE SURE TO CHECK BACK HERE Saturday Afternoon (Feb. 26),  (by 4:00 pm) for updates on weather conditions.  If weather is poor, we may have to reschedule again.

PREVIOUS UPDATE:
January 29, 2022 – Saturday Evening:  I have injured my right foot and will not be able to lead this snowshoe tomorrow.  Therefore, I am rescheduling for Sunday, February 27.  I have sent everyone who was originally registered an email about this.  If you cannot make it for the new date, please cancel your own booking via this site.  If you can make the new date – great!  I’ll see you then!

These ladies look very chic!  I am inspired by their skirts, and will be wearing a skirt on this snowshoe!  Anyone else who wants to “go skirty” is very welcome.  😉   Guys can “go kilty”….lol!

!!Please check back here the evening before the hike, as this event is subject to weather and road conditions.  Conditions change, so please watch this posting for weather updates.  Thank you to Co-Leader Maureen Thorkelson for volunteering to co-lead and opening up more room for participants! 😎

Please note:  I have not been to Baldy yet this winter and do not know what trail conditions are like, but am guessing lots of snow, especially deeper at top.  Timing is really very approximate – if you need to be somewhere on Sunday afternoon, this may not be a good event for you.

Time to Climb!!  Come along with Maureen and I and watch me huff and puff my way to the top!  A moderate to harder 7.5km snowshoe up to a look-out in Sorrento, with lovely scenery, forests, and great views at the top!  Meet up at 9:00am – Valleyview Arena Parking Lot to drive caravan-style to Sorrento/trailhead.  Participants will be expected to wear snowshoes.  If you want to wear traction devices, that is completely ok, but you must have snowshoes strapped to your pack as we will very likely hit unpacked snow as we climb.  Bring lunch and hot beverage – we will not try to clamber up the rocks at the very top, but instead will find a nice spot to stop for lunch.  Those who wish, may bring a backpack chair or stool.  Our pace will be slower to moderate, so if you prefer a quicker pace, this is not a good event for you.
