Description
- This event is full. Â
- 5 night 6 day backpack on the Berg Lake Trail in Mount Robson Provincial Park
- You must be fully equipped for backcountry camping for this event.
- Mount Robson is a world heritage site. The breathtaking scenery has me returning for my 16th backpack and Sam is returning for his 2nd trip after his first backpack to Mount Robson last year. That says it all!
Our itinerary is as follows:
Sunday, August 11th – Accommodation of your choice the night before. Camping, cabin or motel near or in Mount Robson Provincial Park are some of the choices. We hope to check in at Mount Robson Provincial Park Visitor’s Centre and get our permits then watch the mandatory 20 minute video. This will save time in the morning.
Monday, August 12th –Â 11 km hike to Whitehorn with a lunch stop at Kinney Lake.
Tuesday, August 13th – 10 km hike to Berg Lake with a lunch stop at Emperor Falls Campground. The 4 km stretch from the bridge below White Falls up to Emperor Falls is a steady, steeper uphill climb. The hike from Emperor Falls to Berg Lake is much easier. Set up our camp for 3 nights. A short evening hike if desired can be planned.
Wednesday, August 14th – 21 km round trip day up to Snowbird Pass. This trail brings you along the beginning of the Robson River then climbs up above the foot of the Robson Glacier with all its ice caves then up into an amazing alpine meadow then on to Snowbird Pass to view the incredibly expansive Coleman Glacier. This is probably my favourite day hike ever.
Thursday, August 15th – 1/2 day hike on the Mumm Basin Trail. We will start at the Robson Pass campground. The trail has a steep beginning with amazing rewards. We will have incredible views Mount Robson and the surrounding glaciers, valleys, meadows and lakes. This trail takes us up to another amazing meadow. We will also take in the caves above Toboggan Falls if the trail is open. There has been an expansive landslide this year which will require a lot of new trail building. We will come down Toboggan Falls to the Berg Lake campsite.
Friday, August 16th – Hike 14 km to Kinney Lake and stay overnight or hike out 21 km and drive home. The choice will be yours.
