UPDATES:

**BRING A RAIN-COAT OR PONCHO IF YOU PLAN ON GOING BEHIND THE FALLS!💦😃

Oct 01/2020:  Moul Lot Construction is completed – Trail is open.  We will be hiking Moul, NOT Bailey’s Chute.
 (YAAAAAAAAAAAYYY!!)

September 15, 2020

– Poles are a must for the Triple Decker portion of this event.  Short but slippy (small gravel) steep section that requires poles to keep oneself off one’s backside.

– Sadly, the parking lot at Moul Falls/Trail is being upgraded and is anticipated to possibly still be under construction/closed by our hike day.  In the event of it’s still being closed by hike-day, we will substitute Bailey’s Chute for Moul.  I had looked at Silvertip Falls as an alternative, but found out it has majorly washed out steep sections, so, no good.  Either way, we would still begin with Triple Decker/Candle Creek Falls, which is approximately 4 km up the Clearwater Valley Rd from the roundabout.  Afterwards, we drive either 16 km to the Moul trailhead or 52km to the Bailey’s trailhead.  Apparently, the loop at Bailey’s Chute is quite popular with local hikers.  Lots of diversity.  The people at Wells Grey Information feel that the Moul parking lot construction SHOULD be done by Oct 3, but they cannot promise it.  Stuff happens.  So here is a backup plan, just in case we can’t go to Moul.

I will contact Wells Grey a few days before the hike to see, if work on Moul’s parking lot is completed….in which case, we can proceed with original itinerary.  If no, then we go with Bailey’s.

– I will consider allowing a dog or two along on this trip, but Leader approval must be received ahead of time.  Contact me first.  As well, any dogs attending MUST be leashed at all times and all poop must be scooped and carried out.

As always, please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Anyone who wishes, may stop at Helmcken Falls/Spahats Falls after the club hiking has completed, on the way home.  Worth a stop if you have not seen them!

A waterfall hat-trick!

A big thank you to Gerry Hoye for volunteering to partner-lead this hike and allow more openings! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Registration is open immediately upon posting.

This hike is somewhat subject to weather: if it is pouring rain, I will try to reschedule.  If it is sprinkling off and on, I will still go.  Always a good idea to check a day or two before the hike and see if I have posted any weather updates.

Join in as we explore a few of the waterfalls at Wells Grey Park.  I have hiked Moul, but the Triple Decker and Candle Creek hikes will be of an exploratory nature, meaning I have not hiked them yet.

We will begin with Triple Decker and Candle Creek Falls, an approx 4.3 km drive from the visitor’s center – Triple Decker is about .5km (1km return), Candle Creek is an additional 1.7 km (3.5km return), and has been described as a Mini-Moul, as you apparently can go behind that one too.   We can lunch at Candle Creek or wait for Moul – group vote.  There will be some steep sections and cliff edges along this portion of the day’s hiking.

After we complete the first two falls, we will drive another 16 km up the road to the Moul trailhead.  The Moul hike is approximately 5.5 km total (Alltrails stats), out and back, mostly flat.  There is a steep slippery descent for those who wish to go behind the waterfall.

All participants should be capable of completing both sets of hikes.  Please be sure of your fitness levels before signing up.  If you have any questions or concerns about this event, please feel free to email me.
