Description

After a long hiatus, T(Ed) and I are back-in-action with the KHC to offer you a memorable snowshoeing adventure in beautiful Manning Park, B.C.

What we are proposing is a three-night stay at the Manning Park resort which offers its guests a variety of accommodation options be it in the Lodge (individual rooms), or in cabins of varying sizes that can accommodate multiple guests.

Manning Park is a full-service resort (pool, hot-tub, steam room, restaurants, snowshoe and hiking trails, nordic and downhill skiing) and a very popular destination amongst outdoor enthusiasts for both the winter and the summer months – expect prices to reflect this.

We are timing this event to coincide with the full moon in January as our experience in hosting events in the past has been that the weather generally clears for the days immediately leading up to and following the full moon. Thus far I have a 100% success rate in my “full moon/fair weather” theory, so (fingers crossed) here’s hoping that the timing of this event is no exception.

Accommodation arrangements will be the sole responsibility of the participants in this event and if you have any interest in sharing accommodation, post a comment below in the “Leave A Reply” box. Ted and I have booked a room in the Lodge at the Manning Park Resort.   To make your inquiries and book your accommodation, just do a google search for “Manning Park Resort”.

When you are making your accommodation booking, specify that you will be staying at the resort for the nights of Jan. 21st, 22nd,and 23rd with a departure on the morning of Jan.24th.

Additionally,  please DO read the fine-print as it relates to the cancellation policy and if you are carpooling, you may want to have a back-up plan in case your “designated driver” opts to cancel-out at the last moment for one reason or another.  Please be generous in your donation towards the cost of gas if you are carpooling and keep in mind that the larger the vehicle, the greater the contribution.

Please note in the event listing, my remarks with respect to “Risk/Difficulty”.  Up for consideration are trails that are listed as either “moderate” or “harder”.  If you are unsure about your suitability  for this event, please contact me directly.  Headlamps are a must for this event.

The afternoon of our arrival may see us doing an easy loop of up to 9 km.  What we choose to do over the course of the next couple of days will depend on the weather and snow conditions, but be prepared to snowshoe up to 12 km on trails that are listed as “moderate” to “difficult” depending on the snow conditions and the elevation gain.  If snow is scarce, then we’ll just have to swap our snowshoes for our hiking boots.  Participants for this event will be considered based on their recent activity with the club – eg. it is *strongly* recommended that interested participants have some recent history snowshoeing with the club on trails that are rated as moderate to difficult and 10 kms. or greater.   It is expected that drivers have “winter worthy” vehicles with good winter/snow tires.

Number of participants will be limited to 12 people max.

Meet-up time, location, travel details to and from Manning Park, and recommended daily outings, will be decided on at a later date.  It is the responsibility of all participants to periodically check the event listing for any important updates/changes – please stay posted.

*Sorry but no dogs are permitted for this event*.
