Description

The water level is high and the Kamloops Lake backwater slough over near the sewage lagoons is a wonderful place to explore and experience nature.  Many types of waterfowl, turtles, deer, and maybe even a bear can be sighted.  Bring binoculars.

This kayak/canoe outing is for relatively experienced paddlers, as we do cross the current of the Thompson River at Tranquille and winds can be strong at times.  Not suitable for kayaks under 12′-14′.

All participants must have knowledge of kayak/canoe safety and have a PFD, bailer, throw rope and paddle float as a minimum.

We will launch from the parking area at the intersection of Tranquille Road and roadway to Tranquille Farms.  If the water level is high enough, we will launch here and paddle through the “pond” to the river.  We will then cross the current of the river to the far side.  From here we will explore the channels leading back up into the slough areas.  Lunch on some high ground somewhere.

Mosquitos in this area can be extremely aggressive and persistent.  Bring repellent.

If you have any questions, please call the organizer.
