Description
This is an outing for our new hiking club members.  A walk along the Rivers Trail and beach to spy bald eagles and enjoy one of the local areas that can be hiked at just about any time of year. It will be a chance for new members to connect with other new members. Your leaders today (Frith and Sheila) have been with the club a few years so are ready to answer any of your questions about the club and events, and Frith is available to answer any of your questions regarding our website and its functions.
We will stop for a drink/lunch/snack at our turnaround point along the beach, some 3-4 km from our vehicles.  The trail and beach may be muddy but should not have too much ice or snow left. You will not need a full pack, just a layer of clothing to keep warm at our break, drink and snacks. And of course your own personal first aid and medications. You may feel more comfortable bringing hiking poles but they are not absolutely necessary on this jaunt.
If there are spaces left on this event at 1600 on Friday 4th any renewed OLD members please feel free to sign up and come along.
We will meet at the Airport Dog Park then follow the gravel berm for a few kms before turning down on to the beach, then we will return along a different trail. You are welcome to bring your furry friend as this is an off leash area, but please make sure they are under control at all times as some members may be allergic to dog fur.
Please note:Â The 1100 start time is the time we leave the meeting area (most leaders operate this way), so it is a good idea to get there 10-15 minutes early to get organized, put boots on, washroom break etc.
