Description

Rogers Pass is an amazing area of peaks, glaciers and incredible views.   Amazing hiking – all fairly strenuous and scenic.  This is a special place renowned for its mountain scenery, extensive glaciers, tremendous winter snowfalls, and significance to Canadian history.  At this time of year the hopes is for blue skies, no bugs, and cooler temperatures for our steep hikes.   It will be cool at night but we hopefully beat the early snowfalls!

There are many amazing trails to tackle in this area, and we have but two or three days to do them.   Camping is reservable at Loop Brook campground, currently only tent sites are available.  If you have a truck/camper, or camper van, tent or sleep in your car then you will get a site.   But book it now as soon as you sign up for this event through Parks Canada.   Please let me know once you have a site.   Remember if there are several campers you can have two or three tents per site.   **If you choose not to camp roofed accommodation is available in Revelstoke about 80 km away and you can come up and down each day.

Weather permitting the plan is to hike the Perley rock trail which is one of the premier hikes in the area.  It is only 5.6 km each way but climbs 1250 m to an amazing glaciated viewpoint with stunning views of the Illecillewaet Neve.   All the trails in this park are rated Difficult.  We will have all day to hike this trail so many breaks will be necessary.

The other hikes proposed are Avalanche Crest, a 4.2 km hike with an elevation of 1250 m, another incredible view hike.  Or Balu Pass, 5 km each way a little more moderate but still an elevation of 1400m.

Depending on weather/folks timing we may do a half day hike on the last day before coming back to Kamloops – such as Great Glacier Trail, Marion Lake or Loop Brook Trail.

We will organize car pooling between ourselves when registrations are confirmed.   Social distancing on hikes and in campground will be practiced at all times.

Do not sign up for this event if this is your first hiking adventure of the season; the distances are short but the hiking is tough and rewarding.   We do have all day to do them, but you want to get to the top.
