Description
A long trip and a long hike
- either drive the day before and camp overnight, or get an early start to drive to Manning Park (3 hours) (and either drive home or camp overnight at a campsite that night)
- Reservations can be made 2 months in advance at Discover Camping, which means June 23rd on Discover Camping
- The most popular campsites fill up early
- an early start on the summit day (9:00) – meet at the parking lot for the Day Use area at the end of Lightning Lake which is where the trail starts
- PDF map of the area – Manning alpine
- hike to the summit and back with lunch at the top and return by the same route
- camp overnight, or return home (your choice, but you need to drive your own vehicle or organize carpooling if you drive home)
- for those who camp overnight, a second hike is planned (ie Heather Trail) on the next day
- a demanding hike
- adequate preparation is essential
- we will not travel if the forecast is for poor weather and we will try to reschedule, if possible
- registration by contacting the hike leader (priority given to campers)
- If you plan to make a reservation at Manning Park (av. June 23rd), then contact the leader; a space will be reserved if you are successful with your booking
- Hampton Campground is closed for the summer, so we will try for Mule Deer, Lightning Lake, or Coldwater for August 23rd to Aug. 26 or 27th – we are booked into Mule Deer
- the 5 people registered had sites reserved in Hampton, but lost them when the campsite was closed, so we have left their names on the list, pending a new reservation
- If the event does not fill up, we can add day hikers driving down for the day
- we can take up to 12 people, broken into 2 groups
