Description
The route up to Needle Peak and Flatiron lake is a very scenic ridge hike but starts with a very steep, challenging couple of km up a good trail. We climb nearly 3,000 feet in 8 km at an average grade of 13.7% to reach the high point. However, we will climb some 1,900 feet up granite slabs and heathery meadows until we reach a ridge which joins with another ridge from the west, then drop down to Flatiron Lake.
Views are spectacular along the ridge and lakes, with a lovely lake to take a cooling swim in at the top.
We will meet at Aberdeen mall to leave by 0800.
