Description

3 nights at Elfin Lakes in Garibaldi Park. Decision to go ahead subject to smoke reports–I will decide a few days prior.

This is an easy camp out for those who are somewhat new to overnighters. The distance from the trailhead to the lakes is only 11 km, at 10% elevation gain. There is a cooking shelter, picnic tables, outhouses, etc, so not exactly a wilderness adventure.

This will be a small group of three to six people. There will not likely be a co-leader so you may be on your own if you opt out of a dayhike.

Departure will be 7 am on the morning of the 27th–it is a 6 hour drive from Kamloops to the trailhead. The hike in to the campsite is 3-4 hours.

I have already booked two extra tent pads. There is also a cabin to stay in if you do not want to tent it, but it is up to you to book it if you can. Right now it is all full. Of course, you could keep looking and hope to get a cancellation…  also, it could snow in Kamloops tonight. Equally likely.

Day hikes (optional, of course) are planned from the campsite on days two and three:

  1. I was thinking Saddle/Gargoyles on one day. The Gargoyles is 8 km round trip, but note: it has considerable steepness, scree, and entails a bit of scrambling with some exposure. You should have poles. If this is not to your liking, there are easier routes to do that day or variations that will be a bit less scary.
  2. Opal cone is 16 km round trip and not too strenuous, does not require technical skills or scrambling, and has little exposure.
