Description

UPDATE:  Due to poor weather forecast for Saturday, we are moving the race date to SUNDAY.  Times etc are still the same.

This Event is OPEN FOR CLUB SPECTATORS!  (You must be a KHC club member, however.)

If you would like to tag along and cheer for the racers and laugh yourself silly, just be at the Valleyview Arena parking area by 9:00AM on race day.  Racers will start at 9:15 sharp.  There is no registration for watching the race, as any spectators would be strictly on their own and would not officially be part of this event/not registered, etc.  Event leaders and volunteers would not be available for “leading” you in any way.  You would be on your own following the racers and transiting to the different locations (we will be “caravaning” so it should not be too difficult).  Racers will be walking/hiking, not “running”, so spectators should be able to keep up with the main group, no problem.  Spectators must not attempt to verbally or physically coach or assist any racers.  Cheering is very encouraged!  And laughter (there will be loads of hilarity)!

Club spectators are welcome to join in the apres-race luncheon and social too – (bring your own stool/chair, lunch and chocolate) – again, you would just not be an official registered participant.

This Race is weather dependent!  For example, if we are rained out on Saturday, we will race on Sunday.  Check back here the night before the event for weather & event updates.

Please read the entire posting before attempting to register….

REGISTRATION IS OPEN and is done by emailing the hike leader, email address is belowTo register, you must first have a team of 2 people assembled and both people must email me to confirm their participation before you will be considered registered.  In your email, please confirm you understand this is an event requiring payment of a 10$ fee per person (details below), tell me what Team Name you wish to have on your Event ID Badge and who you are intending to team up with.  After I receive that information, I will wait for your team-mate to email me.  Teams are not considered successfully registered until both racers have connected with me.  Spaces are very limited, so please organize your team first asap. 🙂

Registration Fee:  10$ per person100% of all registration fees go towards the purchase of Easter Chocolate for participants (Purdys and Lindt etc) and race materials. Registration Fees will be collected on Race Day by the 9:15 start time.  Cash is easiest.  Race Organizers, Judges, and Photographer are all volunteers and are paid by your laughter and smiles!

Welcome to the 1st (Official) Annual KHC Eggsmazing Race:

a one-day event of scenic hikes, wacky challenge-races, and yummy egg-hunts at 4 different Valleyview/Barnhartvale locations (we’re trying to save on gas costs so are keeping things close-by this year).  Join in as one of 6 KHC Eggsmazing Race Teams of 2 people each, as you dash to find detours, throw yourselves into nutty road block challenges, get surprised with pop-up bonus rounds, and hunt for your team’s elusive hidden Eggsmazing Eggs (filled with incredible Purdy’s and Lindt Chocolates!)  A big round of thank-you’s to Maureen Thorkelson for volunteering her time, creativity, and energy to co-create and co-lead this hilarious event; to Pam Paradis for volunteering her superb photography skills to be our Official Race Photographer; and to Tim Paradis for volunteering for no less than 5 Official Race Crew roles!

On Race Day, arrive before 9:00 a.m. to pay registration fees, pick up your team race badges and get your Team Photo taken, (feel free to wear matching colours or team costumes) etc.  Fun team names are encouraged!  All racers must have the usual packs and the usual 10 essentials to qualify to race.  This is still a club hike.

We won’t be able to take on matching up individual people, as we will be too busy prepping and organizing this race!  If you wish to find a partner, you could try posting a message on the club’s Facebook members-only page, but please have your team arranged before emailing me.  A nice opportunity to meet other members!  Guests not permitted, and this is a more adult-oriented activity, not really suited for children.

There are 4 “legs” making up this year’s race, beginning at the Valleyview Arena Meet-Up Spot (2nd, 3rd and 4th leg locations are a closely-kept state secret until race day!). Each leg will have a hike portion, a challenge portion and a team-name-marked-egg-hunt portion – all 3 portions must be completed before getting the race envelope telling which location to dash to next!  The first envelopes will be released to Racers at 9:15 a.m. sharp at the meet up spot – so don’t be late!!

Timing for this event is very “estimated” – we are not able to predict how long challenges will take every team, therefore, please be flexible on your availability to participate, timing-wise.  We may go well past the predicted 1:00pm end time….

Bring:  lots of water, a small Easter basket/sack if you wish (to stash your chocolate in…something that will clip on to your pack would be best…or just stuff eggs in your pack), bunny ears (de rigueur, of course!), lunch, sunscreen, hat, your fierce spirit of friendly competition, seat-pad/packable chair for the Apres-Race View Luncheon (byolunch), the 10 essentials, bug spray, your sense of humour, etc.

Participants will form 6 teams of 2 people, (we will have 12 openings for racers available for this event) and each team will be timed as they complete challenges, and hunt for their team’s eggs. Travel to the different leg locations will not be timed and will be done caravan-style.  Hike portions will range from easy to “intermediate-ish”, and challenges are more hilarious than physically hard!  Expect a total hiking distance of approx 8-10 km with some climbs.  (bwahaha) 😆

The last leg and Pit Stop will end up at a lovely spot, where we will have a gorgeous view  (bring your seatpads or backpack chairs/stools) and take time to socialize, enjoy your lunch and nibble some really high quality Easter chocolate!  The team who gathers the most points from all the pop-up bonus rounds, and completes their challenges & egg hunts in the shortest time, will see their name placed on the highly coveted 2022 KHC GOLDEN EGG TROPHY and win bragging rights for the next 12 months, along with some very cool Race Winners T-Shirts!  (Seriously….we really have a trophy and it really has a golden egg on it.)  😀

Registration is thru the hike leader.  Contact information below.
