Description

A long day to, on, and above Clearwater Lake.

  • the unique nature of this outing will only fit a few people and I am only looking for expressions of interest at this time
  • the date is flexible – we want a sunny day with no wind – it is set for June 14 at this time
  • Although participants can make their own connections to carpool, the plan is to meet at the launch spot on Clearwater Lake (177 km one way) since we need to transport our boats
  • launch on beautiful Clearwater Lake and paddle north
  • this is a big lake, not suitable for small kayaks, nor novice paddlers
  • we will paddle together for safety reasons at the speed of the slowest paddler
  • all safety gear required (link)
  • paddle up the lake in a kayak or canoe for 6.2 km and land at the beach at Divers Bluff Campsite
  • hike the short and steep trail to the Eagles Viewpoint and back (3 km)
  • it may be buggy so bring repellant/protection
  • lunch on top
  • paddle back to the launch (6.2 km); we will cross the lake where it is narrower, near the launch area
  • drive back, but stop for a meal at the incredible High Five Diner on the way home (optional)
  • 2 hours to the boat launch, 1.5 hours up the lake, 1.5 hours of hiking, 1.5 hours back down the lake and 2 hours to get home
  • article on The Divers Bluff Route
  • Although I am happy to lead and to help out as a volunteer, I expect participants to be self-sufficient with their gear, preparation, transportation, etc.
  • For those who need more support, it is beyond the Club’s volunteer capacity, but rentals and paid guides are available through Wells Gray Adventures ($500 for one overnight)
  • Contact me for more information
  • For anyone renting a boat, here is a map:
